What We Do

  • Split P Poetry Writing Workshops: Want to get your students writing? Want to get your students interested in poetry? Let us work with your students, and we’ll get them started. We offer in-class workshops for half day, full day, and week long residences. We offer after school and weekend workshops. We can take students from the beginning of the writing process to the final stages of performing and/or publishing. We’ll send our artists to conduct interactive writing and revision exercises that fit the teacher’s curriculum and the students’ working knowledge, in grades K-12.

  • Weekend, After-School, and Summer Poetry Classes: Do you or someone you know have a hunger for writing poetry? For young people who have an interest in creative writing and publishing, we lead regular poetry classes and intensive workshops at a variety of venues. We lead students through a variety of exercises that involve other art media such as music, visual art, and dance, and finish the residency with a performance and a chapbook of their best work.

  • Teacher In-Service and Presentations: Need ideas for teaching your students to write creatively? Want to discover unique opportunities where poetry writing can enhance state standards in education in all disciplines? Let us do a workshop at your next teacher in-service day. In hands-on, practical workshops for elementary, middle, and high school teachers we share ideas for helping students discover their writing process and appreciate the values of writing by writing poetry. We can show you ways poetry writing enhances your teaching of state standards in Six Plus One Writing, and writing across the curriculum. Our artists have extensive resources and exercises to share.

  • Split P Soup Poetry Readings: Want to see the beauty of poetry in action? Come to a Split P Soup Poetry Reading. Held twice a year, and at various locations, participants read and perform the work they’ve composed. Our artists work with students to make Split P Soup Readings a celebration of poetry at its finest. Check out the program calendar to find a reading near you or contact us if you are interested in hosting one.
